Towns near the Forest
- Between Nissum Fjord and the plantation Klosterheden...
Between Nissum Fiord and the large plantation called Klosterheden, Bøvling is situated with
a population of around 1250. Among other things here you will find groceries and
arts and crafts. Hornvarefabrikken (the Horn Craft Manufacturer), and Gammelgård Glas (a glass crafts gallery) are all worth a visit.
Just outside Bøvling, an old manor house called Rysensten is situated, surrounded by a moat.
Built around 1400, today it is a modern pig- and plant-breeding farm. Its south wing is
furnished with bed-and-breakfast rooms.
At Høvsøre, west of Bøvling, Research Centre Risø’s test station for big wind mills is
situated with five giant mills.
Nissum Fiord is sheltered from the North Sea by a narrow isthmus. The area is one of
Western Jutland ’s most well-known migratory and breeding spot for birds.
To the north-east of Nissum Fiord you will find a series of villages. One such is Nees.
The characteristic feature they all share is the access to the Fiord. The population here used
to live off fishing and off the forest of reeds surrounding the fiord. Reeds that used to be
an important contribution to thatched roofs in Denmark .
South of Klosterheden Statsskovdistrikt, the large plantation, you will find Bækmarksbro
with Tangsø Centret, a sports centre with a wellness department, a sports hall and a
fitness centre. Bækmarksbro is intersected by a creek called Flynder Å, which is a good place for angling and canoeing.
