- Bunkers, fortresses and mills…
Near Humlum, a rare culture-historical gem is to be seen. Aa-Mølle is about 500 years old and the only mill in Northern Europe containing a water wheel of a particular kind of Roman construction. In 1999, restoration work was finished, and the mill was restarted.
The Hospital Bunker (by Rom Airfield) – Ringkøbingvej/Ravnsbækvej. The bunker was built by the Germans in 1943-44 and was the biggest one belonging to the airfield, comprising 21 rooms altogether on two floors. The hospital was only intended for use in connection with actual combat on Danish ground, which is why it never came into use. Light has been installed, and there are posters containing information about the airfield during and immediately after World War II.
The Thyborøn Fortress For one and a half years beginning in1940, the Germans built the long fortress line called the Atlantic Wall all the way from Norway to Spain . The fortress was one of the largest in Denmark , comprising 66 large and 40 minor concrete bunkers. By the parking space a short distance to the southwest of the harbour, there is access to the exhibition bunker with photographs, maps and sketches of the fortress.
