The Land of Hills and Waves
- Thøger Larsen wrote the beautiful words...
The approach of summer, bringing light and a warm atmosphere, is one of the great joys of life for many people. The beautiful summer song “Denmark, the Light Night is Asleep” was written in 1914 by the Danish poet Thøger Larsen, who was born and grew up in this area.
He must have been inspired by all the wonderful experiences to be found everywhere in the area of Lemvig. That goes for the poem entitled “Landscape” as well:
“Landscape” from the collection “Weather and Wings” from 1923:
There is a light breeze across fields and beaches
In Denmark, the Land of Hills and Waves.
Whispers in the trees, near and far away,
And poems mumbling in the grinder of the mill,
And roars from the breeze against the shore of the lake
And the breath from flower beds –
Those are all voices of Denmark, which tenderly
Give you a gentle and boundless dream.
