The Towns

- The many towns in the area...

Covering an area of 290 square miles, the municipality of Lemvig is inhabited by approximately 22,300 people.
The many towns in the area each have their own special characteristics.
Some are commercial towns, others are fishing ports, one is known for its number of schools,
and others are places where artists like living.

Besides, there are two towns called Rom(e) and Paris, and we have a train station called Victoria Street Station…
Rom(e) is just south of Lemvig, Paris is east of Gudum and Victoria Street Station, so named by locals once in the past, is found in Vejlby Klit - should anyone be in doubt.

Dried fish in the garden
If you visit the area in the spring, you will see dried fish hanging in gardens, on clotheslines or in front of fishmongers’ shops. If you want to have a go at making dried fish yourself, this is one way of going about it:

  • You buy the desired number of plaice or dab.
  • Clean them and salt them down overnight.
  • Hang them out to dry, for example using the clothesline. Hang them as high as possible to avoid flies.
  • The time on the clothesline varies. A week may be enough, but 2-3 weeks is preferable.
  • After that you can take down the fish, and they are ready to eat.
The enjoyment is enhanced if you boil the fish in lightly salted water for 8-10 minutes and serve them with fresh potatoes and a parsley sauce.
